ORT Day is global celebration of the ORT network, connecting students, teachers, alumni and friends of ORT to come together and celebrate our mission to prepare people and communities for meaningful, self-sufficient futures.
This year’s edition of ORT Day will focus on the theme of ‘connection’.
ORT DAY ACTIVITIES
Join us and take part in a global ORT quiz on 12 May @ 2pm (BST).
The quiz is open to all ORT students, teachers, parents, alumni, professionals and supporters. You can take part as an individual or as a team.
You will need the ORT Day Quiz Pack to prepare for the quiz which will be available nearer the time.
The winning team or individual will win $150. (The prize is only available to ORT students)
Registration is essential by 5 May 2021.
We will be using zoom to facilitate the quiz, so you must register with an email address that is connected to your zoom account for security purposes.
Instagram Reels are a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram. Reels invites you to create fun videos to share with your friends or anyone on Instagram. Record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools. You can learn more here.
Task:
Create a 15-30 second Instagram reel which will show the value of connection in your local community and convey a spirit of Tikkun Olam.
The best Instagram reel will win $150, judges are looking to see how you creatively reflect the theme of connection and a spirit of Tikkun Olam.
When: Reels will need to be posted on Instagram on 12 May 2021

15 min live talk and 15 min Q+A for students led by staff and those connected to ORT about their life experiences, connection to ORT and Jewish identity. Talks are also open to ORT supporters and staff.
Building a positive Jewish Identity in the FSU

Speaker: Misha Libkin, ORT Russia Director
Misha is an ORT success story. In this talk he will share the inspiring story of his Jewish journey from Soviet Jewish life, where he says his family were not free to practice their Judaism, to building his own family with a more positive Jewish identity.
In the Russian language talk, Misha will focus specifically on his career at ORT and his journey from ORT student to ORT Russia Director. He particularly looks forward to answering questions from Russian speaking students who are starting to think about their own future careers.
A story of survival from Macedonia to Mexico
4.30-5PM BST (English) | 5.30-6PM BST (Spanish)
Speaker: Amelie Esquenazi, World ORT Networking Coordinator for Latin America
Amelie will be sharing the incredible story of her family’s journey from Macedonia to Mexico as Jewish immigrants. She will also tell us about how her connection to ORT began and how ORT has changed her life.
Students will design and write postcards which will be sent to ORT students across the globe, connecting them to other ORT students as they learn about each other, their schools and where they come from. The postcard template will be available to download from the toolkit.
Suitable for primary and elementary age students. Older students are also welcome to participate.
ORT Day Postcard Exchange guidelines for teachers (in English, Spanish, French & Russian)
Learn about ORT’s history and impact through the movie ‘The ORT story’ with lesson plans in English, Russian and Spanish.
Each activity lasts 15-20 minutes and contains activities suitable for students aged 12-18. There are five different activities to choose from, and we’d suggest dividing them up among your students who can prepare presentations based on the lesson plan. These activities can be used with students at any time before, during or after ORT Day.
