Sir Manasseh Meyer International School (SMMIS) is a not-for-profit, child-centered school that offers a rigorous international education, imbued with the vibrancy of Jewish values, tradition and culture. It is a diverse community that welcomes students of all nationalities and faiths.
SMMIS’s educational philosophy is one that teaches resilience, collaboration, independence and perseverance. It is a smaller school, allowing for tailored learning, enabling each child to flourish and reach their full potential. It joined the ORT network as an affiliate school in 2019.
In keeping with the ORT ethos, the school strives to build mensches. It has a strong ethical foundation and engenders a commitment to social action through Tikkun Olam. Children are encouraged to see themselves as global citizens, with charity and volunteering as strong aspects of school life.
The school was established in 1996 as a small nursery school by the local Jewish community, which grew into a primary school in centrally located Tanglin. Today, SMMIS is an all-through school with 300 students in the northern Sembawang district.
The curriculum within the preschool is Reggio Emilia inspired. In the elementary school, students study the IPC, Singapore Maths Curriculum and UK National Curriculum for Literacy. At Junior High and High School levels, the curricula taught are the IMYC and iGCSEs. The language of instruction is English; Hebrew and Mandarin are taught as foreign languages.
