Our World ORT Mensch of the Month is Alex Bebeshko, a dedicated, inspiring, and deeply committed professional.

Alex is World ORT’s Regional Development Director for the Northeast of the United States. Centered in New York City, he is responsible for stewarding and connecting donors from Washington, DC. to Maine to ORT’s work and mission.

Alex was born and raised in Odesa, Ukraine, and came to the United States in 2000 as a refugee. He lives on Staten Island with his wife and two daughters. Prior to joining ORT, Alex spent 11 years at the UJA Federation of New York.

In April, Alex hosted ORT donors and supporters from across the Tri-State to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day and to meet with Jorge Grunberg, Executive Director of ORT Uruguay.

Jorge was in town to promote the English language launch of Charlotte, the Girl Who Watched the Train Depart, a book about his mother, by Ruperto Long.

Charlotte’s story reminded us of the strength and resilience of the human spirit and the importance of fighting for justice in any way possible. And people like Alex help us tell that story, and make it real.
